The airport needed to increase its capacity and needed an innovative new turnkey PAVA networked solution that would optimise existing assets and limit downtime during the transition period. In their brief, MIA established that the solution should be reliably functional in emergency use as well as day-to-day-operations and should automatically adjust the volume to maintain intelligibility depending on noise levels. The most critical requirement was the intelligibility and accuracy of messaging across the site, key to MIA plans to safely manage increased foot fall.
It was also important that the project was delivered in a timely manner utilising existing IP infrastructure to minimize disruption to the airport’s normal services. Additionally, the system needed to be flexible so that it could be easily expanded as the facility evolves.
MIA handled the physical installation, with ASL/Zenitel guiding the project from conception, acoustic design, and planning stages, through to build, testing and commissioning. Zenitel also continue to ensure that the system remains optimized by providing MIA with on-going 3rd line maintenance.
The Solution
ASL/Zenitel built, tested and delivered a distributed IP-based system initially consisting of two compact wall mount INTEGRA which covered 14 zones across the airport with distributed hardware situated in two separate communication rooms. Over the course of the project, the system was expanded to incorporate an additional INTEGRA and subsequently 8 further zones. The solution is enhanced by Zenitel’s renowned iVENCS core, which provides central control and monitoring via a simple and powerful User Interface.
Hundreds of existing and new high-quality 100V loudspeakers located around the airport deliver the critical and operational messages to travellers. To guarantee safety and security the system is fully compliant with EN 54 standards and includes localised battery backup to ensure operation in the event of a mains power failure.
Additionally, the system features 8 dynamic noise sensors (DANS01), a fire microphone and 18 gate microphones (MPS10). Impedance end-of-line monitoring is provided through the use of an EOLZ01 device, which ensures that MIA can seamlessly monitor their existing loudspeakers.
